The Moses: A Baby Business Under Siege Pt. 2

How to Recognize the Threat, How to Hang Low, Finding The Gateway, and The Risks if you do find that your Baby Business is in fact in the hairy position of being under siege.

********

Symbolically, in the days of Moses, the nile river represented prosperity and provided much of what was needed to live.  It was dependable, brought fertility to Egypt, and was even considered to be the mother of all men.  In this way, most Big Businesses are treated as and act as a Nile.  Whatever they adapt or acclimate is seen as good, and whatever is not an offspring or offshoot is not.  Many people in society give Big Business the benefit of any doubt, and debate morally through the lens of what it would mean to lose the business's support or presence.

Did you ever wonder why baby Moses wasn't killed after being found in the river nile?  Did you ever ask whether he could be identified as Hebrew?

The truth is that the Egyptian people were so superstitious and loyal to their trust in the nile river, that the Pharaoh's daughter willingly kept the baby without any further concern for the decree to kill all Hebrew baby boys.  Therefore, the woven basket with bitumen was waterproof, but the river nile was the fool proof on the family's desperate plan.

Naturally, with the bolstering competition from social media marketers, many large corporations are forced to pay attention to smaller brands and businesses; and they do.  Consequently, many influencers are being supported by these large players as a way to leverage the niche and organic reach of their creative marketing and offset the loss of market share.   As Prime-time began to dwindle between 2010 and 2015, and well-known news sources found themselves competing furiously with more agile and culturally astute challenger-social brands, there became a strong need for big business to think collaboratively rather than territorially.  Yet, ask yourself, how many small businesses and influencers can a major corporation absorb before they are stretched to thin and overthrown with an attention deficit?

The real point that is being made here is that .. absorption is not the most natural or likable means of remaining first in line to market shares or at the top of mind with consumers.  Many small businesses, startups, and entrepreneurs are facing the more probable reaction which is a swift swipe by Big Business.  The kill decree or kill switch, certainly remains a big part of the Big Business 'business culture'.

****

So, let's look at How to Recognize the Threat:

1. Always look for divide and conquer efforts.  Taking out your support system as a small business is a very viable method to kill, steal, and destroy.

2. Look for familiar competition.  Part of the divide and conquer ideology as well as remaining undetected for a big business is to use trivial but nuanced conflicts.  For example: a close friend decides to go into business in your exact industry.

The objectives here are multi-dimensional and simultaneous.  One could be to cause simple rifts within trusted relationships, while another may be to target confidence.  This is done by supplying short and interval support to your rival in order to knock off your perception of your successes.

****

Next... What to Expect:

1. Expect to be patient.  Turn this season into seasoning.  Take up a "nothing wasted" mentality, and build testimony.  Remember, the idea is to dissuade, scare not scar, and postpone.. whether that means entirely or for many years.  The Gateway is, if you stay the course, now you have a way to connect.  This has many layers of finesse and patience required, but it is doable.  It often depends on whether you are ahead or behind of the vernacular for what you are dealing with.

 2. Expect to be dis-allowed.  Therefore, your defense is attached to your agility; not always physical but mental.  In this time, Find Unconventional pathways, Find Favor, and Find Fabric.

****

Then ask.. What Will I Risk?

1. Time.  Govern this loss of time carefully, but most importantly, decide if you have the time.  Many business champions have lost considerable amounts of time fighting to overcome barriers to entry.  By studying their agility and stories, you may find emotional relief as well as insight needed to move around the issues.

2. Comfort.  With any small business start up there's a giving away of some comfort.  Stop and assess what is viable in your story.  Decide what can be dismantled and what must be protected.  Do this early if you find yourself to be a baby Moses.

3. Security.  This is a serious matter.  Be thoughtful, and inform strategically.

How to Hang Low:

1. Be Advantageous.  This is part of becoming multi-lingual.  This is deeper than seeing opportunities given the nature of being under siege.  It requires rejecting much of what is obvious, and rather finding paths that are favorable on a multi-layer of levels and connect with your longterm narrative.

2. I also recommend my strategy LLO: Limited Liability Operations 'An Introductory Workshop', which appeals to surviving low tides in business.

and lastly...

How to Preserve:

1. Good Attitude.  Don't let anything you don't want recalled stain your interactions as you forge new relationships or even find new ways to salvage and resuscitate older relationships.  Hold the fort by being farsighted.  A good attitude will always complicate slander.

2. Good Record.  Do not become unscrupulous.  Maintain the position of a well written business plan.  This means, stay enthusiastic and work to reach what you initially set out to accomplish with the methods you would be proud of.

3. Good Basket.  Every Baby Moses needs a good basket.  Before Moses could be saved, the baby had to survive in the nile.  Find your saving grace.  What acts as your bitumen?  What is your stickiness to your industry, your clients, and your survival?

********

That's it.  Those are the promised points.

This is a good time to wish you God's protection as well as great resilience against any injustice.  The story of Moses is one about Divine Purpose and Faith.  Remember, the heroes of life are patience, wisdom, understanding, and faith.

I hope you will stay connected and share this presentation with a friend you love.
