The Better Fly Blog Series- Blog 6

Welcome back to The Better Fly blog series.

Part 6- SOAR

It’s Business. It’s Spiritual. It’s Heart, and it’s also Soul. This is the sixth blog of the series. We officially only have two more blogs to go, and you‘ll want to be here.

In the last blog, we looked at the possibility of partnerships as being our wings. Today, we look at developing our wing span.

It’s safe to say, in business, a properly laid out partnership should create an evident cross-section within a particular market that produces aerodynamic force. In flying, to create lift, there must be an aerofoil. An aerofoil occurs when a stream-lined cross-sectional shape of wing produces aerodynamic lifting force. This lift is generally created by the pressure difference between top and bottom.

What if creating partnerships were not a haphazard process of meetings and run-ins, but were approached with this in mind? Just consider. If we could graph the competitors in any given industry in terms of size of market and level of specialization, then we could easily identify where we can possibly create an aerofoil. Many times in our attempt to be just like the establishments we admire, we often fail to recognize that these companies are open to capturing other segments of the market. If we could ever find and stand on what makes a company truly unique, perhaps we could be of such help to our favorite brands.

As we begin to plot a better flight for our business, and build up our wings, let’s look closer at how to create an aerodynamic effect and result. Imagine the graph I proposed for a quick moment. On the horizontal, we have levels of specialization and on the vertical we have the competitors listed by size or share of market. If we could consider ourselves as a challenger or a new entry to the market, then we could as the question of where we want to be within the graph. What specific category are you in, and what is its related market share? Most importantly, where in this scheme of things could you erect a possible partnership?

This series of questions and outlook are vital in helping businesses understand not only what shapes their venture, but essentially the resulting shape of the venture and its wings. These are the questions to consider as we not only attempt to take off, but as we decide inevitably to SOAR.
